Below is a list of Frequently asked questions on some of our treatments.  If you don’t find the answers you’re looking for, please contact us.

FAQ Cavitation (Non-surgical Laser Lipo)

Q: How often can I have treatments?
A: Treatments can only be done every alternative day. Treat one area of concern at a time for best results.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Safety is very important and there have been extensive clinical trials to endorse the safety and effectiveness of the ultrasound cavitation treatment.

Q: How is this treatment done?
A: To start, on the day of your treatment, measurements are taken and recorded on your chart. Then the therapist will use the ultrasound heads on the area for up to 20 minutes.

Q: How does treatment work?
A: Gentle ultrasound waves can be heard ’singing’ at a special frequency to remove fat cells permanently. Once removed, these cells will not regrow. When treating for fat volume reduction, ultrasound waves painlessly disrupt the walls of cells containing fat found below the skin within the subcutaneous fat layer, while other tissues such as blood vessels and nerves are unharmed. As fat cells are not able to multiply, once removed they will not return helping to maintain a long-term fat reduction. This is similar to removal of fat by surgical liposuction, but in this case 100% non-invasively.

Q: What results can I expect?
A: Clients lose an average of 2 cm’s per treatment, but results may vary with different tissue structure, treatment area, age, metabolism, medications, and changes in hormones. Proper diet and increased physical activity will certainly improve and help to maintain these astonishing results.

Q: Will the effect be long-lasting?
A: The fat cells treated with ultrasound cavitation will not return or regrow, so that is a permanent effect. However, the length of time that the body shaping will last for is completely in your hands. How much you eat and how much exercise you take will also affect your long-term body shape.

FAQ Non-surgical Wrinkle Reduction (RF)

Q: How often can I have treatments?

A: It is recommended that treatments take place every 14 days. Multiple areas can be treated simultaneously.

Q: Is it safe?
A: The radio frequency face lift was approved by the FDA as a non-surgical treatment for wrinkles and facial skin imperfections.

Q: How is this treatment done?
A: A layer of gel is applied to the treatment area. Heat generated by RF waves then shrinks the bundle of collagen under the skin

Q: Will the effect be long-lasting?
A: Energy absorbed by the targeted area stimulates your skin to activate collagen production. Together collagen and elastin reinforce the skin’s firmness and contours. These protein fibers continue to strengthen after your treatment and you will see improved results over the months ahead.

Q: What results can I expect?
A: Causes immediate collagen contraction

  • Reduces wrinkles and fine lines, and softens deeper frown lines
  • Noticeably improves skin tone and texture
  • Stimulates new collagen formation and plumps the skin

FAQ Skin Repair (IPL)

Q: Before we start…
A: Prior to any treatment we will provide a full consultation. The consultation identifies your expectations and provides a complete explanation of the treatment.

A medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment and if you wish to proceed a written informed consent is obtained and a test patch is performed to confirm there are no adverse skin reactions to the light

Filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions damaging them. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance. The treatment regimen typically consists of 4-6 treatments administered at 2 week intervals. Clients should start seeing results within a very short time.

Q: How is the treatment carried out?
A: You will be asked to put on goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to cool the skin and guide the light. The light applicator is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area is moisturised.

Q: Am I suitable to have treatments?
A: Almost everyone can be treated, excluding tanned individuals, pregnant women or people taking the acne treatment Roaccutane. However, not all pigmented lesions can be treated. Large, dark moles should not be treated, nor should lesions covering a large part of the body. The pigmented marks that respond the best are superficial lesions such as those caused by sun damage (sun spots) and freckles .

Q: How does the treatment feel?
A: The light energy is absorbed by the skin, and heats it up very quickly, creating a sharp, short-lived pinprick sensation. No anaesthesia is required, other than cooling the skin with icepacks. Most Clients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. You might experience a sunburn-like sensation that lasts 2 to 5 hours which is often associated with mild to moderate redness. The treated area is generally sensitive to heat for 2 days following treatment.

Q: What should I expect after the treatment?
A: Redness and a slight warming sensation are normal after treatment. A cooling pack will be applied to the skin to ease these symptoms. The lesions will darken after treatment and may appear more obvious at first, but gradually the marks will ‘flake’ away. Continued sun exposure may result in recurrence of the original mark and sunscreen should be used to prevent this happening. It will be necessary to avoid sun exposure or use a high protection sunscreen for 2 weeks after the treatment.

After hair removal the skin may appear spotty, this is inflammation caused from the heat absorbed in the hair follicle and can last 2 to 24 hours.

After treatment of pigmented lesions the lesion will go darker sometimes almost black, then will fall off within 7 to 28 days (depending on the area of the body) or it will just gradually fade.

After treatment of vascular lesions they will either disappear immediately or appear grey or purplish in colour. Diffuse redness immediately appears more red, then gradually lightens within 2-3 weeks. Vascular treatments generally require 3-4 weekly treatments for best results.

Q: How long does each treatment take?
A: A typical treatment session will take 30 minutes.

Q: How many treatments are necessary?

A: The number of treatments necessary varies from person to person, but typically 5 treatments will result in significant improvement, depending on the severity of the condition. IPL treatments should take place fortnightly.

Q: Is your skin suitable for IPL treatments ?
A:  The table below is used to select the correct settings for each skin type according to the melanin (pigment) content and the skins reaction to the sun. The lighter the skin type, the more suitable it is for IPL treatment.

Skin Type Classification Colour Indication for IPL
I Always burns easily and never tans White Best skin for IPL treatment
II Burns easily and tans minimally White Good skin for IPL treatment
III Sometimes burns and tans gradually White Good skin for IPL treatment
IV Burns minimally and always tans Moderate Acceptable skin for IPL treatment
V+ Rarely burns, naturally dark skin Dark brown+ Not recommended for IPL treatment

FAQ Hair Removal (IPL)

Q:  How does it work?
A:  Highly controlled pulses of light are emitted with the IPL handpiece and are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin.
The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages the re-growth potential of the follicle – all without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Q: How Many Treatments Are Required?
A: You should see a difference after the 1st treatment. For every person the hair growth pattern varies, and is determined by many factors, including hormones. The number of treatments required depends on each individuals’ skin type, hair colour, hair thickness and density. On average 5 – 7 treatments is recommended with 5 – 6 week intervals.

Q:  Which hair and skin types can receive IPL hair removal?
A:  IPL hair removal is effective on most hair with pigment: black, brown and red hair can be effectively reduced, but is not effective on hair that is naturally light in colour. IPL hair removal is safe for most skin types.

Q: What is required before each treatment?
A:  You should shave the area to be treated before treatment.  The area should be shaved as closely as possible so that laser can target the most energy towards the hair follicle and not waste energy on the part of the hair above the skin’s surface. Please allow 4-6 weeks after having your hair waxed , as hair needs to be in place in the follicles for treatment to be effective. Hair should ideally be slightly visible.

Q: What can you expect during the treatment?
A:  A layer of chilled gel is applied to the desired area to cool the skin and guide the light. The applicator is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The process is repeated over the whole area of skin until the desired site has been treated. The gel is removed and the area is washed and moisturised.

Q:  What side effect may occur?
A:  The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from Client to Client, depending on the extent of the treatment and the skin type. You may experience slight redness, itching or local swelling on the treated area, which indicate that the follicles have responded to the treatment.

Q: Is it painful?
A: Everyone’s pain threshold is different, but generally laser hair removal is not much more painful than waxing. The sensation is often described as being the same as a rubber band snapping against the skin for a quick second with each pulse. Most people do not require an anesthetic cream, but one may be used for very sensitive areas. Be aware that using anesthetic creams is only safe on small areas, eg upper lip, bikini, or underarms and in small quantities. Using it on large areas like the back can cause adverse effects. Consult with your pharmacist or doctor if unsure.

Q:  What after-care is required?
A:  Please ensure that the treated area is moisturised with aloe vera twice daily. Do not expose the area to sunlight, heat, chemicals or alcohol for at least 48 hours after each treatment.

Q: What can you expect after treatment?
A: Within 2-3 weeks, you should experience shedding of all treated hair. At first, hair will look like it’s growing back in, but it is just coming through the skin to shed. Shedding starts at about 2 weeks and can last until 4 weeks after treatment. Exfoliating and/or scrubbing gently can help speed up the process. After shedding finishes, you might experience little black “pepperspots” which will shed eventually.

After shedding occurs, you should experience a hairfree period for a few weeks. Your next treatment should take place when the next set of hair that was dormant before starts to grow.

Q: Will the effect be long-lasting?
A: IPL is quite effective on hair that is in the active growth phase, but cannot prevent new hair from developing. We recommend that Clients first explore a possible underlying reason if they experience extreme hair growth, as IPL treatments might seem ineffective if the body keeps developing new hair. It might seem like there is not reduction, when in fact your body is producing new hair. Talk to your doctor if you suspect you might have an underlying medical condition causing excessive hair growth before starting IPL hair removal treatments.

FAQ Medical Face Peel (RégimA)

There are many things said and written about skin peeling. One must always remember that every peel formulation is different and that is where the secret lies. RégimA is a medically accepted unique peeling formulation.

RégimA has been manufacturing the ‘Peel and Heal’ for many years and have achieved amazing results. Our medically approved formula is used successfully internationally, irrespective of climate and seasons. Because we specialize in scar treatments we are several steps ahead of the crowd. Our formulation can and should be used all year round. One starts the process of removing the outer dead layer of skin. This is the layer that gives us wrinkles, pigmentation, sun spots and age spots, everything that retards rejuvenation. The ‘Peel and Heal’ successfully and very safely, works gradually through that outer dead layer and down to the basal living layer. It stimulates collagen production, thus re-elasticizing and rejuvenating even the most damaged, scarred, sun damaged or ageing skins. Unlike many peels which thin the skin, the RégimA formula helps thicken the skin making it much more youthful and healthy and less prone to cell changes. It contains an abundance of skin and scar healing ingredients blended with only pure, NATURAL, unadulterated acids. Although the ‘Peel and Heal’ is potent it is still very easily tolerated and one does not have to experience a major peeling to reap the full benefit. With regular peels the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and even in colour and texture.

The RégimA ‘Peel and Heal’ MUST NOT be compared to any other peel whatsoever. Many other peels are made from basic synthesized (glycolic acid is mostly cheaply synthesized) acids in a gel formula and just strip off the top layer. Some of these other peels are not always safe to use all year around and can cause the skin to be very irritated, sun sensitive and can lead to pigmentation. RégimA DOES NOT make the skin more sun sensitive. It is the safest, most powerful rejuvenator.

Q: Who performs the peels, how often, and is it painful?

A: The Medical Face Peel is performed by our RégimA trained skin care professional. A series of peels may be necessary to achieve an optimal end result to a particular problem. It is better and more favourable long-term to start off conservatively with the peels, each treatment time may be increased, dependent on patient/client reaction and tolerance. With a problem such as pigmentation it would be ideal to commence with either a weekly regime if tolerated very well, or a fortnightly peel if one does experience peeling. One can then progress to either monthly or six weekly as desired or required.

Dependent on the condition of the skin, on application one experiences a slight stinging/tingling sensation which occurs mainly during the first five minutes following application, but mostly one feels itchiness. It is easily tolerated and one may massage around with the pads of fingers to relieve any itchiness. This generally settles down. The peel will be left on for a period of time at the discretion of the skin care professional. This may be generally between 10 to a maximum of 60 minutes, depending on skin condition, problem and tolerance. It must be thoroughly neutralized using RégimA Cleansing Gel and the first cleanse does sting for a minute or so. This quickly settles down and the appropriate RégimA post peel products will be applied to the area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very well tolerated by most people, even the very young skins (as young as 11 years old). May sting more initially if the skin is dry and out of condition. Known to sting when applied pre-menstrually. During certain times of year it may sting slightly more – in extremes of cold and hot weather. Safe to use all year round.

Q: Must I use RégimA products if I am undergoing Medical Peel Treatments?
A: YES!  The Medical Peel Treatments will not be applied to any patient/client who is not using the RégimA home care Essentials. It is critical that one uses RégimA Cleanser, Day and Night products. For 2 nights following the peel one must use one of the following: Scar Repair, Quantum Elastin or Laser Gel. The natural peel and the natural products have been formulated to work synergistically and other cosmetic products may not react favourably.

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER PRODUCTS IN COMBINATION WITH RÉGIMA.

Q: What will I look like after the peel?
A:
Dependent on skin type and initial condition, a degree of erythema (redness) is experienced during the peel, and one can feel the skin is hot. This is mainly due to the stimulation. The redness usually goes down within a few hours and one looks back to normal. There may be some superficial flaking over the next couple of days but this is easy to handle. One may work and socialize as normal. Only following a deeper peeling session will the skin remain red for a few days. Particularly during and after the 70% peel there may be swelling and more extensive peeling, especially in sensitive areas. The skin feels smoother and softer immediately following cleansing. In olive or darker skins if there is any peeling the skin MAY look darker initially on these areas as the dead skin is sloughing off. One must be patient and continue with the home care and the peels, and this will improve quickly.

Q: Will I peel and for how long?
A: This unique peel can achieve instant smoothness of the skin without any visible peeling. A certain amount of epidermis (outer dead skin layer) is removed when the peel is neutralized but one does not have to have a wholesale peeling of the skin for it to have worked. This is therefore ideal for the working woman or man. One may just experience very superficial flakiness of the skin over the next few days. Obviously if one requires more impact e.g. For deeper wrinkles or acne scarring, then one requires the peel to stay on longer, be applied more often and with a higher percentage peel. This would result in a certain amount of peeling for several days.

The degree of peeling experienced at the beginning of the treatments depends on the condition of the skin. If the skin is very dry there may be more peeling, particularly around the nose, mouth, chin, nasolabial folds and eyes. The peel targets these areas, removing them more rapidly. This can be a normal response, particularly if there is sun damage. This does not indicate allergy, and will settle. Apply one of the post-peel products several times, massaging gently, and the dead skin will be removed leaving a smoother, fresher complexion. It does not mean that if you peel once or twice you will peel every time. Reactions vary from session to session dependent on certain factors. If one does not have visible peeling it does not mean the treatment has not been successful.
